Urgent Care Services

Services for an unforeseen illness or injury that requires treatment within 24 hours to prevent serious deterioration of a patient’s health is considered an urgent health care matter. Urgent conditions are normally less severe than true medical emergencies. Examples of conditions that could need urgent care are sprains and strains, vomiting, cuts, and severe headaches.

Urgent Care Benefits
Urgent care services are always paid at the preferred benefit level. Members are responsible for a $15 co-pay.

Emergency Services

In a true medically necessary medical emergency, emergency care is covered at the preferred benefit level even if you are treated at a nonparticipating hospital or out-of-area (see also Out-of-area coverage). When feasible, emergency care should be obtained at a SHS facility.
